Why Social Media Management?

People now hang out on social media and these numbers are increasing. A lot of companies are looking for social media managers to take advantage of this trend. The advantage of this is that you can work from home and you re not limited by borders. You can connect with companies from all over the world to do social media management for them. All you need is an internet connection and a computer and you are good to go.

What Do Social Media Managers Do?

Social media managers regularly update social profiles for their clients. They come up with strategies to grow a brand and raise awareness through social media. Their job is also to respond to questions raised on the social platforms. If they don’t know the answers, they refer them back to the company representatives. They also do customer support through social media.

Which is The Best Social Site?

There are a lot of social media platforms out there, but which one is the best one? That question is best answered by considering the following:

Target Market

You need to understand your target market. Certain social platforms work better in specific regions and not others. In Zimbabwe, for example, Facebook is the most popular site.

Geographic Location

Where your target market is located geographically is also very important. First world countries will view more video content than people in the rest of the world because of affordable internet.

Which Social Network do you understand better than others?

It’s best to play to your strengths when it comes to the social media platform that you are going to use. When you do this, you will find that it’s much easier and you tend to get better results that way.

Who Needs Social Media Services?

The first person is you. You can get paid to do social media so you are the first person who needs this. Celebrities who don’t have social media managers are also a good target. Companies, churches as well as entrepreneurs and others all need social media management services.

How to Find Clients

Look for a target e.g churches and visit their social media pages. Look at whether they actually have one and if they do, how often they post to it. It will give you an idea of whether or not they need help with their social media.

You can also use classifieds sites and see which companies are advertising and whether or not they have a presence on social media. If they don’t have a presence or that presence is weak, you can contact them and propose social media management services to them.

Join Social groups and attend live networking events where you can tell people about the services you offer.

How to Name Your Company

Make your company name easy to remember. It’s also not advisable not to use your name. Your company may grow and at some point, someone may want to buy it from you, when you use your name, this may complicate the whole process. Consider using a name in your local language just to give it that ethnic feel.

How to Charge Your Clients

When it comes to social media management and other service-based businesses, it is usually best to charge on a 3 month, 6 months or 1-year contract. This is primarily due to the fact that it will take a bit of time to get the results for your client in the first month.

If they don’t see results within the first month, they may not want to pay you for the following month. If they pay for 3 months, it’s more likely you’ll have great results for them by the time their next payment is due.

You can also offer your first 2 months free and when they see the results and are happy with them, you can now sign a 3, 6, 12-month contract with them.

Since this is a service-based business, you get paid for time. For you to make the best of things, you need to look at your expenses like rent, internet e.t.c then look at the number of clients you need in order t be able to meet your expenses as well as have a healthy profit afterwards.

Getting Results Faster

Your clients want fast results and the best way to do this especially in the beginning is to use paid advertisements. Facebook and other social media platforms give you the option to do a paid promotion where they broadcast your advert to a wide market and in this way, you are able to get results for our client quickly. You can spend up to 50% of the money on advertising.

One of the things you need to do as well in order to get quick results for your client is to get social media training. There a lot of resources available online where you can get comprehensive social media training.

Getting Started

So, what do you need to get started? The first thing you need to do is create a Facebook page. Next up, you need an automation tool and we are going to be talking about that in the next lesson.
