In this video, we hear from Lutrish who is working full time online as a freelancer on Upwork. Lutrish is a qualified journalist who, years ago, I encouraged her to consider selling her skills to a foreign publication. She did this and earned her first $70 online but didn’t do much about it until a couple of years later when I, once again, challenged her to take up an online job again. Check out me first interview with Lutrish here in 2016.
At this point, she was tasked to apply for at least 5 jobs on Upwork each day for one week. Eventually, the efforts paid off and she got a job. This led to others and she eventually left her job and has been doing online jobs fulltime.

Why you Should Seriously Consider Freelance Work
Statistics globally show that there is a growing trend towards freelance work as a lot of businesses are trying to get away from the high overheads associated with having full-time employees. Automation and artificial intelligence have also taken away a huge chunk of jobs from people.
In fact, Nedbank South Africa has introduced a robot which is expected to cut out 3000 jobs. Even though we are not as advanced as our Southern neighbours and the developed world technologically, the gap between is slowly, but surely, closing.
Because of these trends, more and more people are now turning to freelancing as a source of income. Freelancers are generally classified as self-employed falling under the bracket of the informal sector in Zimbabwe.
What that means is that 90% of the Zimbabwean productive group belong to the informal sector. Freelancers can be classified under this same bracket but generally tend to earn more than most people in this sector.
